CAPT Stephen R. Shapro, USN (retired),
Captain Shapro was commissioned at the Officer Candidate School in February 1985 and attended the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia. He first served as Supply Officer on the attack submarine, USS LOS ANGELES (SSN 688). Following duty on the staff of Commander, Submarine Force U.S. Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, he returned to sea on the submarine tender, USS DIXON (AS-37). After graduating from the Naval Post Graduate School, where he earned a Master of Science in Acquisition and Contracting, he served as Officer In Charge of the U.S. Navy Contracting Department, Hong Kong. He next reported to the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, Puget Sound for duty as the Director of Regional Contracting, and was latter assigned as Supply Officer, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. After serving as Supply Officer on the fast combat support ship, USS SACRAMENTO (AOE-1), he reported to Naval Supply Systems Headquarters in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, for duty as the Deputy Commander for Contracting Management. Captain Shapro is the recipient of the Navy League’s 1992, Vice Admiral Robert F. Batchelder Award for logistics excellence, the Naval Supply System Command’s 1995 Award for Academic Excellence in systems management, and the Surface Navy Association’s 2003 Admiral Zumwalt Award for visionary leadership. His personnel decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal. Captain Shapro command at Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, Puget Sound on 6 July 2007, and retired from active duty following this tour in 2009. Captain Shapro now serves as the Deputy for Small Business at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest, managing NAVFAC-NW small business programs that provide opportunities for small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, HUBZone small businesses, veteran and service disabled veteran owned small businesses, and women owned small businesses to participate in Federal contracting as both prime and subcontractors |
